Hello! I am Aly, a Clinical Psychologist and Mindfulness teacher based in Singapore.
Welcome to 归, Gūi Psychology, my practice I started in 2023.
归(Gūi) is a Chinese word that means returning or coming home to. I have chosen a name for this practice in my mother tongue to pay homage to the first language that helped me make sense of the world around me.
归, Gūi Psychology was borne out of my intention to provide a non-judgmental space for you to gently come home to yourself. The experience of coming home to ourselves is at the heart of (re)connecting with who we are - befriending parts of ourselves we are aware of, discovering parts we might be unaware of, and exploring parts that might be in the way of a fuller, more meaningful life.
The journey of “coming home to” can bring about deeper clarity of our inner world, sense of Self and how we relate to others in relationships.
My work with you as you go on this journey of “coming home to” will be guided by an integrative attachment-informed and acceptance-based therapy approach. I prioritise cultivating a therapeutic relationship of trust and safety with you, and for you. I seek to offer a mindful presence as we navigate your inner world (e.g., thoughts and emotions), make sense of your struggles in the context of your personal history, make meaning of your life experiences, as well as explore coping resources that will support and facilitate your personal healing and growth.
My therapy approach draws on therapeutic modalities that include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Compassion-Focused Therapy, Attachment-Based Psychotherapy, Functional Analytic Psychotherapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
Before 归, Gūi Psychology, I was practising as a Senior Clinical Psychologist at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) for 9 years where I provided psychotherapy for patients aged 18 years and above who presented with mental health conditions and medical conditions. Outside of clinical work, I conducted training and talks on mindfulness and mental health-related topics for the public, external organisations and hospital staff. In my time with SGH, I also provided clinical supervision to practising colleagues and psychologists in training.
